Game At A Glance: Oregon State 11, North Carolina 4

Turning Point: North Carolina finally broke through for two runs in the top of the fifth to cut Oregon State’s lead to 3-2 in the top of fifth, but the Beavers stole the momentum back in the bottom of the frame. With one out, No. 9 hole hitter Lonnie Lechelt doubled down the left-field line and scored on a Chris Hopkins single up the middle.

The Hero: Freshman righthander Jorge Reyes picked up his second straight CWS win for the Beavers, holding UNC to three runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. After allowing a leadoff double to Reid Fronk to start the game, Reyes took control of the game by inducing a Tim Fedroff fly ball and striking out the next two batters.

You Might Not Have Noticed: The score might have been even more lopsided if North Carolina hadn’t turned five double plays, tying the CWS record.
