Game At A Glance: North Carolina 6, Rice 1

Turning Point: Consecutive errors by Rice shortstop Brian Friday (on a pop-up he lost in the sun) and second baseman Aaron Luna (on a routine ground ball) gave North Carolina two baserunners with no outs in the second, and both runners wound up scoring. That gave UNC a 3-0 lead it would not relinquish.

The Hero: UNC senior righthander Robert Woodard shut down a Rice offense that had scored in double figures in each of its first two CWS games this year. Woodard held the Owls scoreless on two hits over the first six innings before Rice got on the board in the seventh on a Danny Lehmann RBI double.

You May Not Have Noticed: Rice has lost games on back-to-back days just once in the last two years–in the 2006 College World Series, after starting 2-0.
