N.C.–Oregon State won its first College World Series to finish the season ranked No. 1 in Baseball America’s
weekly Top 25 college baseball rankings. It marks the highest ranking ever for the Beavers, who fought off a CWS-record six elimination games to leave Omaha as the national champion and with a school-record 50 wins.
Carolina advanced through bracket play undefeated in Omaha and captured the first game in the championship series against Oregon State. It finishes the year ranked second.
No. 3 Cal State Fullerton and No. 4 Rice each advanced to the bracket championships, losing to North Carolina and Oregon State, respectively. The Owls lost consecutive games to the same team–Oregon State–for the first time all season in Omaha and finished the year without scoring in their final 23 innings.
