DURHAM, N.C.—Vanderbilt extended its winning streak to 10 games with a sweep of SEC West leader Alabama and remained No. 1 in the Baseball America Top 25 for the third week in a row.
After the Commodores, Virginia, South Carolina and Florida all won their weekend series. The only new entrant into the top five was Texas A&M. The Aggies won their fourth straight weekend series to open Big 12 play, beating Texas Tech on the road for the first time since 1997.
Three new teams entered the top 10, with North Carolina leading the way. The Tar Heels won their series at then-No. 7 Florida State, the first time North Carolina had won a series in Tallahassee since 1995. Their jump of nine spots was bested only by Oregon State’s vault. The Beavers swept then-No. 5 Arizona State and leapt 10 spots to No. 9. Cal State Fullerton also entered the top 10 after beating rival UC Irvine in a weekend series. The Titans were last in the top 10 on March 7, when they were No. 6.
The Top 25′s only new member is Arkansas, moving in at No. 25. The Razorbacks captured their first SEC series victory in dramatic fashion, sweeping then-No. 17 Louisiana State for the first time since 2004.
The Pac-10 continues to have six teams ranked in the Baseball America Top 25, the most of any conference.
