Prospect Of The Day
Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) DH Hank Conger had this one wrapped up before most of the league even played. In a 6-1 win over High Desert (Mariners) Conger was responsible for five of the runs as he went 3-for-4 with three home runs. He went deep with a two-run shot in the fourth inning, a a solo shot in the sixth and another two-run shot in the eighth.

He lasted four innings last night, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out five. [...] Continue Reading »
The California and Florida State Leagues both had yesterday off and will resume play today.
Carolina League
Prospect Of The Day
We’re running out of things to say about Brandon Snyder this week. With other prospects in the league either hurt, taking a day off or simply not performing, it makes it hard to select a POTD, but the Frederick (Orioles) first baseman just keeps on raking. He was 2-for-4 last night with a double, run scored and RBI, raising his season line to .306/.339/.482. [...] Continue Reading »

Prospect Of The Day
Stockton (Athletics) slugger Chris Carter hit his league leading 26th home run last night, giving the Ports a little insurance in their 3-0 win over San Jose (Giants). Carter was 1-for-3 and is now hitting .261/.370/.574 in 333 at-bats and has lit up opposing pitchers to the tune of .346/.382/.788 in July.
Prospect Nuggets
Inland Empire (Dodgers) third baseman Austin Gallagher hasn’t been slowed in the least. He was 2-for-5 last night with a double, his 23rd, and an RBI…Lancaster (Red Sox) outfielder Josh Reddick took the DH duties and went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored…Lefthander Jesse English took the loss against Carter and Stockton, but his line was still pretty good. He struck out nine and walked just two over six innings, but the Giants could only manage five hits on the night and left English hanging. [...] Continue Reading »

Prospect Of The Day
Visalia (Diamondbacks) righthander Barry Enright hasn’t seen much go right for him this season, but last night it looked like he was running on all cylinders. He went six innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out a career-best 12 batters. Unfortunately, he was denied a win as the game went into extra innings. The Oaks won with two runs in the 13th.
Prospect Nuggets
Bakersfield (Rangers) lefthander Kasey Kiker matched up against Enright, going five innings and allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three…Third baseman Johnny Whittleman was 2-for-6 with a double and run scored…Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) catcher Hank Conger connected for his second home run of the season…Stockton (Athletics) righthander Craig Italiano’s night didn’t go much better than his first three appearances. California League
Prospect Of The Day
While big hitters in the Texas organization have been seeing a lot of success and promotions, Bakersfield (Rangers) third baseman Johnny Whittleman still has some work to do. But last night it seemed like everything was working for him. He was 3-for-3 in a 6-2 win over Stockton (Athletics) with three doubles, three runs and an RBI.
Prospect Nuggets
Lancaster (Red Sox) outfielder Josh Reddick had a perfect night, going 4-for-4 with a double and run scored…Inland Empire (Dodgers) lefthander James Adkins wasn’t so perfect. He lasted just one inning, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits and two walks. He went six innings allowing just one run on five hits and a walk while striking out five…High Desert (Mariners) shortstop Carlos Triunfel was 3-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBIs, but also committed his 18th error. Prospect Of The Day
We haven’t seen him do much lately, but Stockton’s (Athletics) Chris Carter deserves some credit for last night’s performance. Carter was 2-for-4 with three RBIs on two home runs giving him 24 on the season. Sounds like one of his typical big nights, but a closer look reveals that he was playing third base, his sixth straight start there and 10th in the last 11 games.
Prospect Nuggets
The top four hitters in Lancaster’s (Red Sox) batting order went a combined 10-for-19 with six runs scored and seven RBIs. Outfielder Jason Place and first baseman Lars Anderson both went 3-for-5 with a home run while catcher Jon Still went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs…Lake Elsinore (Padres) outfielder Cedric Hunter went 3-for-5 with his 22nd double and three RBIs in the 8-5 loss to Lancaster. He is now 5-3, 4.60…Enright also earned a no decision after throwing six innings and allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four. [...] Continue Reading »

Prospect Of The Day
Visalia (Diamondbacks) righthander Wes Roemer hasn’t quite broken out like he would have hoped so far in his short career. But last night looked like one of those nights. He threw eight innings, allowing just two runs on three hits. He walked none and struck out six.
Prospect Nuggets
Only three games were played yesterday and even less prospects were in on the action. But Lake Elsinore (Padres) outfielder Kellen Kulbacki was 2-for-4 with his 13th home run and three RBIs. [...] Continue Reading »

Prospect Of The Day
Just about every fifth day, Modesto (Rockies) righthander Jhoulys Chacin makes this selection pretty easy. He dominated the South Atlantic League before a promotion to the Cal League, where he has continued his success. Yesterday he beat Visalia (Diamondbacks) by throwing six innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits, while walking none and striking out three. He is now 2-0, 0.64.

Prospect Of The Day
There was quite a pitchers’ duel in Stockton (Athletics) last night, with the winner making his high Class A debut. Prospect Of The Day
Last night, DH Jon Still displayed the exact reason a No. 4 hitter is called the clean-up hitter. The first three runners for Lancaster (Red Sox) reached base and Still knocked them in with a grand slam, giving the JetHawks an early 4-0 lead. He finished the night 3-for-4 with four runs scored, six RBIs and a double. The grand slam was his 15th home run of the season.

The California and Carolina Leagues were off yesterday for their All-Star break.
Florida State League
Prospect Of The Day
It was slim pickin’s in the FSL today as two of the league’s games were postponed because of rain last night. But that didn’t stop Desmond Jennings from showing off some of his skills. He went 3-for-5 with his first triple of the season and falling a home run short of the cycle. He also scored two runs in the 5-2 win over Clearwater (Phillies).
Prospect Nuggets

Both leagues were off because of their joint all-star game
Florida State League
Prospect Of The Day
Jeremy Jeffress (Brewers) has had some dings during his two-year pro career. He was suspended for 50 games after testing positive for recreational drugs, and he’s struggled at times despite blistering stuff.
But then there are games like last night when Jeffress reminds everyone of his potential. Jeffress held Dunedin to three hits in a complete-game (seven-inning) shutout. Jeffress struck out eight, which was the third time in his last four starts that he has struck out eight or more. Since compiling a brutal 10.22 ERA in three May starts, Jeffress has gone 2-1, 2.45 in his last five starts. [...] Continue Reading »
With the California League and Carolina League taking the day off in preparation for today’s Carolina League-California League all-star game, it’s a very light schedule in high Class A.
PROSPECT OF THE DAY
Todd Frazier (Reds) got off to a scorching start with low Class A Dayton, and has been very solid since being promoted to high Class A Sarasota. But like many other Florida State League hitters, he has found that the hot, muggy summer days does make hitting home runs a little more difficult.
Frazier went deep on Monday for his sixth home run since being promoted to Sarasota in early May. After hitting four home runs in May, it was only Frazier’s second homer this month. While his power may have dropped, Frazier has sharpened his batting eye. He’s hitting .344 this month, and has only 13 strikeouts in 61 at-bats, after striking out 21 times in 74 at-bats last month. The California League had a day off in preparation for the Carolina-California League All Star Game.
Carolina League

Prospect of the Day
A postgame scoring change helped Archie Gilbert (Mariners) hit for the cycle last night in a blowout win. Griffin started things off with a bang, smashing a three-run homer in the second inning. He tripled in the fourth and doubled in the fifth before his last at bat in the ninth. In the last frame, he hit a grounder to second that was bobbled and originally ruled an error, but a late change in the box score gave him the reverse cycle. The four hits and four RBIs were both career highs for the designated hitter. He also scored twice and raised his average to .278.
Prospect Nuggets
Gilbert’s teammates also had a big day in the 19-run outburst. Chris Carter (Mariners) hit two home runs and a triple in a four-RBI performance . . . Sean Doolittle (Mariners) added two hits, scored and knocked in a run to boost his average to .326…Jason Place (Red Sox) laced two doubles and scored twice…Sean O’Sullivan (Angels) got touched up for seven runs on nine hits in five innings, but still earned a win to improve to 8-4.
What to Watch For
Gilbert and Carter lit up High Desert pitching for seven hits and three home runs combined yesterday in a 19-7 drubbing. They’ll get another shot at the same staff at 10:05 p.m.
Carolina League
Prospect of the Day
Jared Goedert (Indians) led off the second inning with a single, but he was far from done. After Kinston batted around in the frame (in which they would eventually put up 13 runs), Goedert stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and sent a grand slam into the left field seats. Goedert is the Indians’ top prospect at second base. [...] Continue Reading »
Hank Conger kept on hitting in the California League while a trio of Sarasota Reds also had big nights.
California League
Prospect of the Day
Hank Conger (Angels) smacked two hits last night, including his first triple of the season. Conger hasn’t been able to catch as he recovers from a shoulder injury, but he has shown that his bat is back to full speed. Conger is now hitting .306/.348/.500 in 62 at-bats, and he has six multi-hit games in the past 10 games.
Prospect Nuggests
Keith Weiser (Rockies) turned in a complete game shutout. He allowed five hits and a walk, but struck out six. He has struggled a bit to a 5-8 record, but his ERA is just 2.98 … After a disastrous stint in Double-A, Henry Rodriguez (Athletics) is getting back on track in Stockton. Rodriguez allowed two runs — one earned — on three hits and a walk in five innings. He struck out six. Rodriguez has struck out 16 in his last 11 innings … Josh Reddick (Red Sox) scattered three hits, including his sixth double, to boost his average to .352…James Adkins (Dodgers) got roughed up in his outing.
