Though his overall numbers don’t really show it, Jason Place has made great improvements over this season. The Lancaster (Boston) outfielder hit .320/.405/.546 in June, easily the best month of his career. Two righthanded prospects are trying to right the ship in their 2008 season. Brad Lincoln takes the ball for Lynchburg (Pirates) against Myrtle Beach, while John Ely will take the hill for Winston-Salem (White Sox) against Potomac (Nationals).

Lakeland (Tigers) first baseman Ryan Strieby can’t be stopped. He turns 23 tomorrow and has be on fire since July 1. Last night he went 3-for-5 with a run scored, three RBIs and two doubles.

He’s now hitting .45/.476/1.000 this month. Also, an interesting stat, he has 13 home runs. Twelve of them have come against righthanders–he is a righthanded batter.

Last night he went six innings, allowing just two hits. He didn’t allow any runs or walks and struck out four. He didn’t earn a decision after the bullpen blew a lead and the game went into extras.

The Quakes managed just five hits, all singles. Outfielder Peter Bourjos and catcher Hank Conger each had a hit. Conger drove in the lone run.

Inland Empire (Dodgers) third baseman Austin Gallagher hit two longballs to give him five on the season and chase High Desert (Mariners) southpaw Travis Mortimore from the game in the fourth inning. The early damage caused by the pair of home runs was not enough to give the 66ers the win, however, as High Desert stormed back with six runs in the ninth inning for an 11-10 win. He blasted his 15th home run of the season in the fifth inning, a two-run shot off JetHawks’ righthander Christopher Jones, and scored three of Lake Elsinore’s 11 total runs.
