The 6-foor-5 lefty, taken 16th overall in 2004, dominated Triple-A batters this season, going 2-0, 1.89 with
21 strikeouts, six walks and no home runs allowed in 19 innings for Syracuse. Batters went 12-for-66 (.182) against him, with lefties going a meager 1-for-11.
Purcey looked as good in the Arizona Fall League last winter as he had since turing pro. He finished two whiffs off the AFL pace, with 25 in 22 innings, and limited batters to a .163 average.
