New York Mets

Granted free agency: SS Wilson Valdez

Not only was Bowman Rule 5 eligible, but he also was six-year free agent eligible, too. The British Columbia native signed with the Mets in ’02 as a 12th-round pick out of high school. The 24-year-old battled through back trouble to have his most productive pro season. Bowman batted .294/.346/.458 with nine homers in 91 games for Double-A Binghamton. He hadn’t made that many appearances in one season since ’04.
