The Indians lost both Santos and Snyder to waiver claims. The Blue Jays claimed Santos, a Hawaii native who was a draft-and-follow in 2002 from Saddleback (Calif.) CC. The 26-year-old lefty posted a 4.89 ERA in 77 relief innings at Double-A and Triple-A this season, striking out 69 and walking 22. The Cubs nabbed Snyder, a Ball State product who went 18th overall in 2003. Because the lefthanded batter strikes out too much, he’s struggled in six pro seasons to get the most out of his combination of power and speed. The 26-year-old batted just .246/.297/.426 for Triple-A Buffalo this season, with 123 whiffs and 27 walks in 411 at-bats.

Not to let the air out of Miller’s breakout season too much, but the 23-year-old benefited mightily from playing in Triple-A Albuquerque’s Isotopes Field, doing most of his damage there. In that regard, he’s no different from Isotopes past and present—Dallas McPherson, Scott Seabol, Val Pascucci—who’ve enjoyed the thin Albuquerque air. Miller, a righthanded batter and a 2003 fourth-round pick out of an Alabama high school, hit just .233/.317/.381 away from Isotopes Field—and .308/.386/.581 with 13 of his 19 home runs in 198 home at-bats.

If the names of the released seem unfamiliar, that’s because many of them haven’t played professionally in two or more season. Seems as if the Yankees finally got around to reactivating them and formally releasing them. Cox was a 36th-round pick in 2007, and Greenwood signed as a nondrafted free agent in 2005—but didn’t play in 2008—making him one of the more recent New York farmhands here. For Isaacson, Robles and Tierce, 2005 was their final pro season; for Japa, Rojas, Carroll, it was 2006.
