Kyle Blanks capped his big night with a walk-off home run, Tyler Colvin beefed up his resume for Friday’s Prospect Hot Sheet and Chris Tillman is making the Orioles look smarter every day.

Prospect Of The Day

San Antonio edged out Frisco 14-12 yesterday, with a big contribution from first baseman Kyle Blanks (Padres). Blanks went 5-for-7, smashed two home runs and a double and drove in six runs. His second home run came in the 12th inning, giving the Missions the walk-off win. The two home runs give Blanks 17 on the year, and he’s now hitting .316/.396/.499 in 120 games. And Blanks is still just 21.

Prospect Nuggets

Frisco center fielder Julio Borbon (Rangers) went 2-for-6 with a walk, then stole three bases. Between Frisco and high Class A Bakersfield, Borbon has 49 steals in 65 attempts (75.4 percent) … Midland shortstop Adrian Cardenas chipped in two hits in five at-bats, including a double. Cardenas has been hitting at the bottom of the order for the Rock Hounds, though in 14 games he’s hitting a nice .353/.421/.412.

Former Mariners prospect and current Orioles righthander Chris Tillman continued his stretch of utter dominance yesterday for Bowie. Tillman, 20, worked six scoreless innings and allowed just three hits at Reading, walking two and strikin out eight. Tillman, who lowered his ERA to 3.32, has struck out at least one batter per inning in each of his last six starts, bringing his strikeouts to 139 in 124 2/3 innings.

Prospect Nuggets

Tillman got some run support from catcher Matt Wieters, who went 1-for-4 with a walk and hit his 25th home run of the season … Binghamton center fielder Fernando Martinez (Mets) may be just 19, but he’s showing he can already hang in Double-A. Martinez went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk yesterday, bringing his Double-A line to .283/.334/.423 in 75 games … New Hampshire catcher J.P. Arencibia (Blue Jays) went 0-for-3, but he did draw two walks. That’s a fairly sizeable feat for Arencibia, who in his previous 56 games with the Fisher Cats had walked just three other times.

Prospect Of The Day

Tennnessee left fielder Tyler Colvin’s (Cubs) season line of .257/.315/.430 in 126 games is fairly pedestrian, but his August numbers have been sensational: .367/.397/.709 with five home runs in 18 games. Yesterday Colvin went 2-for-5 with a home run. He now has a multi-hit game in 12 of his last 16 games, including six of his last seven games.

Prospect Nuggets

Montgomery righthander Jeremy Hellickson (Rays) gave up the two-run homer to Colvin, but it was the only damage Hellickson allowed on the night. He finished with one walk and five strikeouts in five innings … Jacksonville shortstop Ivan DeJesus (Dodgers) went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.

What To Watch For Today

He’s doesn’t meet BA’s prospect eligibility requirements any more, but 23-year-old lefthander Andrew Miller (Marlins) will make a start tonight for Carolina.
