Sean Rodriguez rapped out four extra-base hits, David Huff went six strong innings and Jed Lowrie kept on streaking.
PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE
Prospect Of The Day
Salt Lake second baseman Sean Rodriguez (Angels) wouldn’t mind if all his games were played in Las Vegas. The 23-year-old went 4-for-5 with two home runs (11), two doubles (10), three runs and three RBIs in the Bees’ 9-6 road win. The four extra-base hits tied a Salt Lake franchise record, and with the big game Rodriguez moved to .298/.422/.653 in 121 at-bats on the season.
Prospect Nuggets
Salt Lake SS Brandon Wood (Angels) went 3-for-5 with a double (12), a run and two RBIs. . . . Memphis LHP Jaime Garcia (Cardinals) was touched for four runs (two earned) on five hits in five innings yesterday. He struck out four and walked two. . . . Tacoma LF Michael Saunders (Mariners) was 2-for-4 with a home run (two), two runs and four RBIs in the first game of a doubleheader. In game two, he was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. . . . Sacramento C Landon Powell (Athletics) homered (10), doubled (11) and walked twice in the River Cats’ 9-3 win against Portland. He’s thrown out 17 of 40 basestealers (43 percent) this season, a figure that ranks behind only Salt Lake’s Bobby Wilson and Tucson’s Wilkin Castillo in the PCL.
What To Watch For Today
The Rangers have been promoting their guys all over the place this season, and RHP Tommy Hunter, a supplemental first-round pick from Alabama last year, becomes the latest. The 21-year-old (for one more day) starts for Oklahoma at New Orleans tonight. He went 4-2, 3.78 with 28 strikeouts and 17 walks for Double-A Frisco.
INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE
Prospect Of The Day
Buffalo lefthander David Huff (Indians) struck out nine Scranton/Wilkes-Barre batters in six innings yesterday, while walking just one, but the Bisons couldn’t muster much offense and lost 5-2. Huff allowed two runs—on a two-run home run by Justin Christian—on three hits. The 23-year-old lefty now boasts an otherworldly 38-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in Triple-A, and his season ratio isn’t too shabby either: 100-to-17
Prospect Nuggets
Pawtucket SS Jed Lowrie (Red Sox) went 1-for-4 with a double (11) and a run scored. He now boasts an 11-game hitting streak. . . . Indianapolis CF Andrew McCutchen (Pirates) got July started on the right foot, collecting two hits and a walk in four trips, while stealing two bases (23). . . . One season removed from leading the Pacific Coast League in fewest baserunners allowed per inning, Rochester RHP Philip Humber (Twins) has found the going much tougher in the IL. He dropped to 4-7, 6.00 after allowing eight runs on 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings in a loss to Lehigh Valley yesterday. He struck out three, walked two and gave up two home runs.
What To Watch For Today
In two starts since coming back down to the minors, Louisville RHP Homer Bailey (Reds) has surrendered nine runs in 12 1/3 innings. However, he’s struck out 12 and walked just three, and he gets a chance to improve upon that ratio against Indianapolis today. . . . Recently-demoted Phillies RHP Brett Myers, who’s surrendered an MLB-leading 24 home runs this season, will iron out his mechanics with the IronPigs, and he starts tonight against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
