Rangers’ Andrus Out Three Weeks

BA correspondent Evan Grant reports that Double-A Frisco (Rangers) shortstop Elvis Andrus will miss three weeks after fracturing a finger on his right hand.

Andrus, who at 19 is the youngest player in the Texas League, was batting just .268/.322/.316 in 190 at-bats with 19 stolen bases in 23 attempts.

With Andrus now on the shelf, all three of the teenagers in Double-A have endured their share of adversity. While Andrus has struggled at the plate and will now miss time due to injury, Yankees right fielder Jose Tabata hasn’t hit well (.239/.314/.284 in 197 at-bats) and has been disciplined by his Trenton team on two separate occasions. The third teen, Mets center fielder Fernando Martinez, was looking solid for Binghamton (.280/.314/.408 in 157 at-bats) before injuring his right hamstring two weeks ago, an injury that should sideline the 19-year-old for another week.
