Braves lefthander Cole Rohrbough has joined low Class A Rome after beginning the year rehabbing his rotator cuff tendinitis in Orlando.

Rohrbough joins an unusually lefty-laden Rome pitching staff, which has nine lefthanders on its 14-man staff. In fact, the five currently active starters on Rome’s roster are all lefthanded–Jeff Locke, Jose Ortegano, Eric Barrett, Scott Diamond and Chad Rodgers.

Rohrbough, who ranked seventh in the Braves system entering the season and was the top prospect in the Rookie-level Appalachian League last year, made his professional debut in 2007 after signing for $675,000 as a draft-and-follow. He dominated Appy League hitters with a 1.08 ERA and a 58-8 K-BB ratio in 33 1/3 innings. He continued his success upon a promotion to Rome, where Rohrbough had a 1.29 ERA in 28 innings with 38 stikeouts and 12 walks.

To make room for Rohrbough on the roster, the Braves promoted lefthander Carlos Rivas to high Class A Myrtle Beach.
