The Phillies have signed Dominican catcher Deivi Grullon, the No. 15 international prospect for July 2, for $575,000.
Grullon, 16, is a defensive-oriented catcher with at least a plus arm. He’s 5-foot-10, 175 pounds and his righthanded bat will need time to catch up to his defensive tools. He played in the Dominican Prospect League, trained with Luis Coronado and was represented by Lizaldo Ramon and Jonathan Maurer.
Baseball America subscribers can read Grullon’s complete scouting report. Earlier today the Phillies also signed Dominican outfielder Jose Pujols, the No. 20 international prospect, for $540,000.
