This is an astute question. The Indians say Barnes is still a member of the 40-man roster and that his invisibility on the official roster page is simply a MLB.com display glitch.

If you discount the four players on Cleveland's 60-day DL plus Roberto Hernandez because he's on the restricted list, then the Indians' 40-man stands at 39 players. In other words, there's plenty of room for Barnes.
