Marlins’ Jose Fernandez Heads South Atlantic League All-Stars

The 53rd annual South Atlantic League all-star game will be held at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Ballpark, home of low Class A Charleston RiverDogs. Festivities commence on June 18 with the first round of the home run derby taking place on the deck of the USS Yorktown, an inoperative World War II-vintage aircraft carrier. The derby will conclude before the all-star game begins at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, June 19.

Let's take a closer look at this year's participants, noting age, acquisition history and performance through June 11. Charleston outfielder Mason Williams has been added to the Southern Division roster as a replacement for Greenville's Keury de la Cruz. We'll keep you updated with changes to rosters brought about by injuries or by players being promoted.

Roster changes for Tuesday's South Atlantic League all-star game, according to a press release issued June 18:

Northern Division

• Hagerstown manager Brian Daubach will be replaced on the coaching staff by Greensboro's Frank Moore.

• Greensboro righthander Kevin Cravey will not play due to injury. Cravey has not been replaced on the roster, leaving the Northern Division with 10 pitchers.

• Greensboro catcher Wilfredo Gimenez was added to the roster as the third catcher to replace Hagerstown's Adrian Nieto, who is injured.

• Finally, Greensboro's Chris Olson will replace Delmarva's Will Lawhorn and handle the trainer's duties for the Northern squad.

Southern Division

• Righthander Jason Chowning from Lexington has been promoted to Lancaster in the California League. Chowning has not been replaced on the roster, leaving the Southern Division with 10 pitchers.

• Greenville left fielder Keury De La Cruz will not play due to injury, so Asheville's Tyler Masey has been moved to the left fielder position from his spot as a utility outfielder.

• Charleston's Mason Williams has been added to the roster as a utility outfielder.
