Yoenis Cespedes Hits First Home Run (With Video)

Yoenis Cespedes has gotten off to a sluggish start in the Dominican League playoffs, but he flashed his bat speed and power potential tonight with his first home run since joining the Aguilas Cibaeñas.

In a 3-2 count against Astros righthander Rhiner Cruz, Cespedes lifted a 97-mph fastball over the left field wall in the sixth inning. Including tonight's 1-for-4 showing, Cespedes is 3-for-23 (.130) with a hit by pitch, no walks and six strikeouts while serving as the Aguilas DH.

Here's the home run, for your viewing pleasure:

If that really was a 97 mph fastball and he was that far ahead, then he was just completely guessing fastball.  Not good to see a hitter struggling mightily (I know, very small sample size) and take a swing like that.  He got lucky.

What a God awful swing.
Every swing I've seen of his his head leads his body and he ends up completely unbalanced and out of control.
He looks and plays more like a WWE wrestler then a legit prospect.

This guy appears to be a slightly thinner version of Wily Mo Pena. He's definitely in 'Feed Me Fastball' mode all the time. I sincerely hope the Marlins Latin American Scouting Dept. is on their toes w/ him. I can just see them dumping 6M+ on this AAAA player.

15th pitch of the at bat?  That's impressive, at least.

Pimped it. For all of you have are writing him off, stop it. He will hit in the league. For all those hitting instructors please keep it to yourself.
