Just when you thought Oakland had too many first basemen on its roster—Brandon Allen, Daric Barton, Chris Carter—they traded for another one in Kila Ka'aihue. The 27-year-old batted .216/.309/.375 in sporadic playing time (326 plate appearances in four years) with the Royals, though his strikeout rate is trending in the wrong direction at Triple-A, rising from 15 percent of PAs in ’09 to 17 percent in ’10 to 21 percent this season. 

Good thing the A's decided to convert ’07 sandwich pick Sean Doolittle from first base to pitcher after knee injuries wiped out, essentially, the past two and a half seasons.
