@Rays Fan

It's a numbers game. The Rays have three short-season affiliates to stock each summer, so they draft and sign more college players than most organizations need to get them through the year.

The older college players who sign with Tampa Bay as draft picks or NDFAs know they really have to show something to earn a full-season roster spot in 2012—particularly in an organization that has approximately one million teenage talents from recent drafts and international efforts.

You see a similar dynamic with other seven-affiliate organizations, such as the Royals and Blue Jays.

Any news as to why Kocsco was released? I thought he had a pretty solid year. I assume he asked out, but considering the oragnization's infield depth, one would think he had a chance to progress here.
What about the rest of the 2011 picks? Seems a bit odd to release four picks without giving them a better look - With our minor league depth I suppose it could be hard to stick.

@Chuck

The answer you seek is referenced in the intro to this post. Just like last year and the three before it, MLB distributes its "declared" free agent list approximately 5 days after the World Series ends.
