I can't find documented proof, but I suspect the Padres stashed David Newhan on a short-season club's disabled list until forced to populate those rosters for real in late June. Either that or he spent much of the year on the restricted list.

I'm sure you saw John Maffei's preseason story about Newhan'd surfing accident.

Thought was their a reason why San Diego sign him for guy who didn't play at all this season?? I am asking as I tweeted their twitter page & they said he was even listed on the roster.. Michael Matt
