The Red Sox have signed 16-year-old Dominican shortstop Raimel Flores for $900,000. ESPN Deportes first reported the signing.
Flores, who trains at the Arias and Goodman academy, is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound switch-hitter from La Malena with a contact bat and advanced defensive skills for his age. Baseball America subscribers can read an in-depth scouting report on Flores and other top international prospects.
Flores is Boston's second major confirmed international signing so far since July 2. The Red Sox also agreed to terms with Dominican outfielder Manuel Marcos for $800,000.
