No Travon Robinson?  Really?

How is Banuelos ahead of Pomeranz? Yankee bias!!!

How is Teheran behind Moore? Teheran is younger, is in AAA while Moore is in AA, and Teheran has better stats in AAA than Moore in AA. I’d like to see their reasoning behind this one

I'm semi-surprised that Leonys Martin wasn't higher on the list. I'm expecting him to be top 15/top 10 pre-season next year.

Wait a second.  Where is the immortal Casey Kelly?  You know, the grand prize in the Adrian Gonzalez sweepstakes?  You don't just drop off a list because you change uniforms, right? Right? Guys…?

Are there really 4 SS's and 46 other players ahead of Nick Franklin?

No Brandon Jacobs?  One of best all-around OF talents there is at any level.  Better contact hitter and with more power than Gose, albeit Gose is a CF.  Jacobs runs very well for his size, well above ave.

Where is David Phelps and Adam Warren?

Let's go Jays! I can't wait for Lawrie to get back from injury to make his debut and Gose looks great right now. I hope he can work on his AVG and K/BB ratio by the end of the year

Is Viciedo's exclusion due to his BB%? Because he is tearing up AAA, and looks like a legit OF prospect. Then again, I understand why he is left out, but was wondering how close he was.

These comments are priceless.  I can't tell which ones are serious and which are satirical.
Gosh, I hope they are not all serious comments/complaints… Adam Warren and David Phelps?  Really?

It's great to see #19 LHP Tyler Skaggs in the top 20 and he should be in the top 10 by next year for sure. 1B Paul Goldschmidt should be higher then #50 and the same goes to #40 RHP Jarrod Parker too. Those three will be All-Star players for the Diamondbacks for years and years to come.

What about Adam Eaton? I urge you to look at his stats. Good hitter, selective and patient at the dish, speed + stolen bases, a little power and just got promoted to AA. Common!

I'm curious to know where Brandon Belt would fit since he was optioned back to AAA the same day the article was written and he only has 57 AB's which should still qualify him for this list.

What would Tim Wheeler have to do to make this list? He's a CF with 22 HR, 14 SB, and a .316/.398/.602 at AA, as a 23yo.  What's not to love, guys?!?

Would have expected Kipnis to be even higher than #31.

How is Michael Choice not on this list ?

Question about Zach Cozart, not on the list because he's in the majors, or not on the list because he's not top 50?

These lists are all about ceiling and speculation and less about actual accomplishment. That's why Wheeler isn't on it and Goldschmidt is 50. If they are 22 or 23 and still in the minors, there's a good chance they aren't making the list.
Still doesn't mean that they won't be successful big leaguers because they don't make these lists.

I can't believe all the minor league experts out there but I guess BA can't hire them all.  Thanks for the list guys!

Great list this year, glad to see everyone is sticking with Myers. Is Simon Castro in the top 100 anymore? What about Trey McNutt?
Also, Nick Franklin and Jean Segura gotta be close to the top 50 right? John Lamb? Mike Olt?
And taking the fact that Darnell will be a corner outfielder in the big leagues and  there's a good chance that Petco Park will make anyone betting on his bet look like their boozing, does he threatean the top 75?

Where is Darin Gorski!?!?

Brad Peacock leads the Eastern League in strikeouts (129 in 98 innings) and has dominated AA.  To have him below Ranaudo, Odorizzi, Skaggs and Erlin is embarrassing.  He is the closest to big-league ready of any pitcher on the entire list.  I thought the point of a midseason list was to re-assess based upon performance within this season.  He is on a fast track to a solid to great MLB career.

No love for Matt Adams?

Where is [insert your team's overvalued prospect's name here]?

once again jose altuve gets no love, look past his height please

i agree with the person that said pomeranz should be in front of banuelos, and whoever asked why david phelps and adam warren arent on this list has to be on drugs.
jameson taillon is going to be a monster for pittsburgh.

Funny, everytime Harper went up against the Greensboro Grasshoppers they owned him.  Christian Yelich looked like the better prospect by far, and he didn't even make the list.  Oh well, it's tough to overcome manufactured hype!

As mentioned in the chat, I asked six scouts/front office officials specifically about him. I didn’t find one who projects him as a major league starter. They could all be wrong, but that’s the reason he’s not on the list.

The point of a midseason list is to update our off-season Top 100 Prospects list. It’s not to overreact to the first half of the season. As mentioned in the chat, Peacock is a very good prospect–it’s why we put him in the top 50, but I can’t find a scout who would rather have him the the other pitchers you mentioned.

Franklin, Olt, Lamb and Segura didn’t miss by much. McNutt would still be in the top 75 or so. And Darnell would to.

You are correct, there are very good future major leaguers who didn’t make this list. And you’re also right, we’re not handing out gold stars for first-half accomplishments. This list is compiled by taking the stats, analyzing them, but even more importantly talking to scouts and front office officials and getting their opinions. That explains why Wheeler’s great first half wasn’t enough to get him on the list–considering his past performance scouts want to see him do it for a little while longer. And it’s why Goldschmidt isn’t a top 10 prospect.

Not far off, but didn’t make the Top 50.

Strikeout rate is still a concern.

Yeah Belt didn’t qualify for the list by one day. He would have been Top 20 at least by my estimate.

Well aware of the stats, but not really a Top 50 guy.

Wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Parker climb the list as he gets further away from his Tommy John surgery.

Walk rate is one concern, defensive position is another. But he is doing a lot to rekindle his prospect status this year.

Jacobs would have made the Wait And See list. Like him as a prospect, he’s coming along nicely, but yeah I wouldn’t comp him to Gose, one is a plus-plus runner, the other runs well for his size.

We were being pretty aggressive with him. Once scouts have seen more than 150 U.S. at-bats from him he could climb even higher.

Here’s the answer I gave in the chat today: We initially had Kelly in the Top 50, but in the end, the consensus was that at some point he has to start missing more bats. The stuff is every bit as good as it was in our preseason scouting reports, but we are talking about a player who has posted a 1.50 WHIP and a near 5.00 ERA in 38 Double-A starts. And he’s done it in reasonable parks for pitchers. He still has the stuff to be a No. 2 starter, but there’s a long ways to go to get there.

Moore’s curveball is better, his fastball is just as good (and his changeup is not far behind Teheran’s) and he’s doing it from the left side. They’re 1A and 1B as a scout said in our Scout’s View, but that’s why Moore ranks ahead of Teheran.

Was in consideration, but ended up probably in the 60-70 range.

always wonder why relievers who fly up to the majors are never on these list hardly shrug

[...] afternoon, they released their Midseason Top 50 Prospects List, and while some players jumped up the charts, the news was not great for all of [...]

The fact that Trayvon Robinson isn't on this list really makes you have to scratch your head — let alone not being in the Top 15 or so.
Disappointing list to say the least. No list that places Hak-Ju Lee at #22 and leaves off one of the best all around talents in the game in Robinson is one that should be all that respected.
Like BA 99% of the time, but this is one poorly constructed list.

Where the hell is Evan Lernak!?!

Hello from Thailand.  I am enjoying this baseball season on my computer through your site and MLBTV.  My favorite team is the Giants and I see that they are right about average given each team should have 1 and two thirds players on it. The Giants have two listed so I am encouraged, even though the Giants are ranked pretty low as a farm system. Funny because they are very successful ML teams.  But I would like to know if Brandon Belt was not considered a prospect any more because he was called up briefly… and if that is the case how about the other rookie Brandon… Brandon Crawford. I never saw him rated as a very high prospect and yet he had to jump several levels, arriving at the show as an emergency fix because of the tremendous amount of Giant injuries. So is he still a prospect? He might stick as a good glove no hit guy or then again he might go back to AA to resume his development. Would he be rated then?

Yeah! And what about all those utility infielders and fourth outfielders

You guys really missed this one! Brad Peacock no 42 is a travesty. His #'s in a tough eastern league ar stupid. He is leading the minors in k's and his hits to innings pitched are off the charts. Just because he was a late round pick doesn't mean he's not a dominant player in the minor's. He should be a top 5! I mean he's touching 96 with a hammer curve ball. Watch him in the future's game on sunday. I would think he will be called up to the show or at least triple A right after the future's game he has nothing more to prove at double A. I don't get this one!

Crawford was never a top prospect because there are serious concerns about his bat. Belt did not qualify for the list because at the time the list was compiled he was on the major league disabled list on minor league rehab.

Robinson’s a good prospect, but you do have to temper the enthusiasm a little bit. Albuquerque is a very good place for hitters, just ask John Lindsey, who flirted with hitting .400 there last year. And not only does Robinson play his home games in Albuquerque, much of his road schedule is at places like Reno, Colorado Springs and Las Vegas, other parks where the ball flies out. We ran our list by roughly 10 scouts/front office officials. None of them suggested that Robinson should be a top 25 prospect.

How close was Brandon Guyer of the Rays to making this list?  One amazing stat with him is 15 OF assists in 78 games.  He also homered in his very first big league AB.

Also, Robinson’s strikeout rate is a concern, 100 Ks in just over 300 ABs.

Did someone just say Matt Adams? Even a caveman couldn't come up with something more ridiculous! Now, what about Stetson Alie? Or Keon Broxton?

How on earth did Anthony Gose rise on your top 50 mid-season list when he struggled the entire first half of AA baseball? Gose is on pace to have 150 strikeouts as a leadoff hitter? He is likely to turn into Carlos Gomez, not Carl Crawford! Leadoff hitters need to get on base and with a .260 AVG or worse, he will not succeed!!

The Rangers have four in your top 50; and two that could be if it werent for injuries- Olt and Scheppers.  Neil Ramirez, Ross, Weiland and Buckel may be on the list soon. Do the Rangers have one of the top system again?

Love it.  Great list!  Thanks for the work.

@Geo007 How could you possibly compare Anthony Gose to Carlos Gomez. Gomez doesn't have Gose's power, nor does he have his arm or speed. Gose was throwing over 90+ when he was pitching in high school. As well he has been compared to Ricky Henderson in terms of speed. Finally I see how you could be calling out his .260 average, but Gose walks alot and therefore has a leadoff level OBP at .356. When you have 4 above average tools its not that bad to have 1 average one.

After finally getting to see Moore pitch in the Futures Game, Aaron Boone gave him the best nickname, "Easy Cheese". Can we all agree that he has the most effortless looking upper 90's FB? Wow! I have no problem placing him above Teheran. Shields, Price, Niemann, Hellickson, and Moore next year…..ummmm, yikes!

I understand taking from preseason rankings, but how is JD Martinez not warranting this list?  Or Altuve?

I like the "choose-your-own-adventure" nature of the responses JJ… Enough of the answers don't specify which player you're talking about that most of the whiners above can console themselves with the belief that their suggestion was the one "not far off but didn't make the Top 50" or is "doing a lot to rekindle his prospect status this year."
