Update (July 3, 3:22 AM): Mariners vice president of international operations Bob Engle said the Mariners do not have any deal with Martinez. The text of the original report from yesterday is below.
The Mariners have signed Dominican outfielder Helsin Martinez for $2 million, the International Prospect League announced.
Martinez, 16, is a 6-foot-5, 190-pound corner outfielder who many scouts consider to have the best righthanded power in Latin America among this year's July 2-eligible players. Baseball America subscribers can read a complete scouting report on Martinez and more of the top prospects in Latin America.
