Indians Add Two More Venezuelan Prospects

The Indians have signed two more international amateur free agents, including 16-year-old Venezuelan lefthander Edgar Pineda. Multiple news outlets have also reported that the Indians announced the signing of 16-year-old Venezuelan outfielder Omar Sanchez. Bonus terms were not immediately available.

Pineda is only around 5-foot-7 or so but he can already reach the low-90s with his fastball. Sanchez is a speedy outfielder with a line-drive swing. More information on Pineda and Sanchez is available to BA subscribers.

With Pineda and Sanchez, the Indians have signed five players that Baseball America has confirmed since the international signing period opened on July 2. Their top signing so far has been Dominican shortstop Dorssys Paulino, who signed for $1.1 million. The organization also signed Venezuelan outfielder Anthony Santander for $385,000 and Dominican outfielder Francisco Miguel for $200,000.
