@Richard

Many of the college players from the ’08 first round cast long shadows—guys like Pedro Alvarez, Brian Matusz, Buster Posey, Gordon Beckham, Ike Davis and Andrew Cashner—because they've already got a foot in the door in the big leagues.

Beckham looks better when compared with his ’08 high-school peers—Kyle Skipworth, Aaron Hicks, Ethan Martin, Brett Lawrie, Anthony Hewitt, et al.—but at this point in time it appears that Beckham will not develop into a first-division shortstop. Scouts do like his power potential and arm strength, so all is not lost.

Is there hope for Beckham to justify the number one pick?
