Outfielder Brett Jackson (Cubs) and Todd Frazier (Reds) hit three-run homers as Team USA beat host Puerto Rico 7-4 Saturday night in Ponce, P.R., in the opener of the 2010 Pan Am Qualifier tournament.

Jackson had three hits to pace the American attack, and his three-run shot in the sixth provided some cushion, as the Americans led 4-3 at the time. Frazier's three-run shot punctuated a four-run second inning.

Veteran righty Todd Redmond (Braves), who won three games for the U.S. last September in the 2009 World Cup, picked up the victory, pitching into the sixth inning. Relievers Tim Collins (Royals) and Justin De Fratus (Phillies) got the final 10 outs for the Americans, yielding only one unearned run and three hits.

The U.S. banged out 11 hits, with 10 coming against Hiram Burgos (Brewers), who took the loss, and Efrain Nieves (Brewers). Veteran Jorge Padilla (Mets), a 31-year-old outfielder, had two hits for Puerto Rico.

The U.S. plays Aruba in its second game of the round robin.

Canada won its opener 7-6 against Nicaragua in a game that took about six hours counting rain delays. Jamie Romak (Royals) homered and doubled to pace Canada's offense, while veteran Peter Orr (Nationals) had the game-winning RBI to score Jonathan Malo (Mets). Rain also halted Cuba's game against the Netherlands before it could begin.
