Outfielder Brett Jackson (Cubs) and Todd Frazier (Reds) hit three-run homers as Team USA beat host Puerto Rico 7-4 Saturday night in Ponce, P.R., in the opener of the 2010 Pan Am Qualifier tournament.
Jackson had three hits to pace the American attack, and his three-run shot in the sixth provided some cushion, as the Americans led 4-3 at the time. Frazier's three-run shot punctuated a four-run second inning.
Veteran righty Todd Redmond (Braves), who won three games for the U.S. last September in the 2009 World Cup, picked up the victory, pitching into the sixth inning. The commissioner's office released the names of three more Rookie-level players from Latin American summer leagues who were suspended for 50 games for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
They were:
• Cardinals shortstop Lainer Bueno (Venezuelan Summer League, tested positive for Clenbuterol)
• Angels outfielder Reynaldo Ruiz (Dominican Summer League, Boldenone)
• Orioles shortstop Alfredo Zambrano (DSL, Nandrolone)
All three suspensions are effective at the start of the 2011 season.
