The Blue Jays spanned North America in bringing aboard the latest reinforcements.

• They signed Zack Breault after working him out at the Rogers Centre. An ’07 graduate of Ontario's St. Thomas of Villanova High, he had been playing semi-pro ball in Canada's Intercounty Baseball League.

• Toronto originally selected groundball specialist Jamie Vermilyea, a New Mexico product, with a ninth-round pick in ’03. He spent six years in the system, including the better part of five years at Double-A or Triple-A, and made two relief appearances for the ’07 Blue Jays. Vermilyea, now 28, pitched in Italy in ’09 and had saved 20 games with a 1.64 ERA for Maui of the Golden Baseball League this season.

• Corner outfielder Ricardo Nanita, 29, batted .341/.401/.491 with six homers in 226 at-bats for Tabasco of the Mexican League. The White Sox made him a 14th-round pick from Florida International in ’03, and he moved to the Nationals as a minor league Rule 5 pick for the ’09 season.
