The Braves worked out a trade for Wilkin Ramirez, whom the Tigers had designated for assignment. Atlanta will send either a player to be named or cash to Detroit. While Ramirez has seemingly been a prospect forever, he's still just 24. The good: he's a solid defensive center fielder with plenty of power to his pull side. The bad: Ramirez does not make adjustments at the plate and sells out for power. He's batting .228/.292/.452 with 19 homers this season, having gone 1-for-7 to begin his Braves career. With 146 strikeouts, Ramirez has whiffed more times than all but one minor leaguer this season.

The Cubs removed Thomas Diamond from the 40-man roster last offseason, not long after claiming him on waivers from the Rangers. The 27-year-old earned his back on with his strong pitching this year, and he struck out 10 Brewers in his big league debut on Aug. 3, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings. Pitching for Triple-A Iowa, Diamond led the Pacific Coast League with 8.6 strikeouts per nine innings and a .218 opponent average.

Both Casey Coleman's father and grandfather, both named Joe, pitched in the big leagues. The 23-year-old Casey is a strike-throwing sinkerball type with a strong changeup and fringy breaking stuff. He struck out just 4.5 batters per nine in Triple-A, though his 1.9 groundout-to-flyout ratio helped him limit the damage.

What a year it's been for Jeff Frazier. He played in the Triple-A all-star game for Toledo and he still leads the International League with 56 extra-base hits a week after his callup to Detroit. At 27, going on 28, the future is now for Frazier, who batted .273/.316/.527 with 23 homers for the Mud Hens, but he probably lacks the plate patience or the defensive chops to avoid life as an up-and-down player.

The 12th pick in the ’09 draft, Aaron Crow simply was not ready for Double-A—in part because he didn't pitch much in the year prior to the draft. He declined to sign with the Nationals as an ’08 first-rounder and played independent ball instead. For Northwest Arkansas this season, Crow went 7-7, 5.66 in 22 starts, while striking out 90 and walking 59 in 119 innings. He should find the ride less bumpy with high Class A Wilmington.

While it's been a great year in the sense that Lance Zawadzki made his big league debut, it's also been a frustrating one in that the 25-year-old hasn't hit a lick in the minors. A .596 OPS for Triple-A Portland earned him a ticket to San Antonio, where he's off to a 4-for-22 (.182) start. Through 272 at-bats in all, Zawadzki was batting .227/.294/.300 with a pair of home runs and 10 doubles.
