Top Venezuelan third baseman Renato Nunez has agreed to terms with the Athletics for $2.2 million, according to an international source.
Several international scouts have called Nunez, 16, the top hitter available this year out of Venezuela with the ability to hit for both average and power. A team official declined comment on the signing.
Baseball America subscribers can read a complete scouting report on Nunez as well as full reports on other top Latin American prospects from this year's signing class.

Just by reviewing this youtube video it would appear Oakland got hosed out of alot of money. His agent must be pretty sly to grab 2.2 million! I coach highschool kids and this young man looks to be a pretty run-of the-mill talent. I wish him luck!

Posted by Albert Perez | July 3, 2010 at 12:12 am | ShortcutOh my word, 2.2 million to a 16 year old! The A's front office is scaring me. There is nothing fluid about his throws and he isn't a real impressive physical specimen. Then again he's only 3 years post-pubescent so hopefully he's still growing ($2.2 million!)

Mucha suerte para el.
