Sean Watson, an ’06 second-round pick from Tennessee, had his moments as a member of the Reds organization. Unfortunately, those moments came mostly at the Class A level. Watson, who turns 25 tomorrow, struck out 135 batters in 126 innings in ’07, but because his conditioning and command were suspect, he subsequently earned a ticket to the bullpen. Watson appeared in 86 Double-A games, running up a 5.24 ERA with 9.6 strikeouts and 6.5 walks per nine innings.

In the midst of breakout year, Drew Cumberland suffered a serious injury, as he had in each of the past two seasons. The Double-A shortstop slid into a wall while trying to make a catch and suffered a deep laceration of his left knee. It's possible that high Class A Lake Elsinore could still be alive in the California League playoffs at that point.
