Yes, but only in the sense that we searched for a younger candidate than Freese. I suspect Pedro Alvarez will have third base locked down by the end of the year.

Was any consideration given to Danny Valencia of the Twins? I know he came up late, but his defense has been almost flawless at 3rd, and he has put up eye-popping numbers, especially over the last week or so.

Really? Gaby Sanchez over Tyler Colvin? Colvin's 2 years younger, is capable of playing all 3 OF positions (and looks to be an above average defender in RF), and has done more damage in fewer AB's.
I know you guys got burned on overhyping Cub prospects at the beginning of the decade, but don't let it influence the current crop.

Bumgarner has pitched very well for the Giants, but he's made just six starts. We've had more time to see what the non-Strasburg rookies can do—and they've all held up under heavier big league workloads.

At this point of the season, we favored rookies who had both performed and had sufficient big league time. That was the reasoning behind the selections of Chacin, Garcia, Leake and Niese.

What happened to Madison Bumgarner? He is just as good as the rest and is the youngest. The only guy in that group I would take over him is Strasburg. Chacin? Give me a break.
Here is his line:

Guess Pedro Alvarez arrived on the scene a bit late. He and Tabata will garner some attention by season's end.

In the end, we had to cut the Rays' John Jaso from the all-rookie team in favor of Buster Posey. What follows is Jaso's player capsule:

C—John Jaso, 26, Rays

Whether it's the best four months of his career or a new level of play, Jaso has supplanted Kelly Shoppach (injuries) and Dioner Navarro (ineffectiveness) to become primary catcher for one of the AL's top teams. Virtually an afterthought following the ’09 season, Jaso worked hard to rehab his defensive image, and the results are evident. Basestealers have tested him just 36 times this season, while being caught 28 percent of the time. This easily is his best work since ’07, when he nabbed 35 percent of 81 Double-A basestealers. Jaso's emergence as an on-base machine (career minor league OBP: .379) could not have come at a better time for Tampa Bay—Navarro and Shoppach have combined to hit .207/.312/.287 through 174 at-bats.

Since the break: Jaso has gone 4-for-19 (.211) with a double, while showing the same fine batting eye (four walks, one strikeout).
