It seems as thought he Angels will never have problems with pitching depth. 1-5 in the bigsright now they are top 5, maybe top 3. In the pen, Fuentes, Rodney, Jepson, Shields, Stokes and Bulger are as good as any bullpen. In the farm they have starting arms destined for relief work in Trevor Bell and Sean O'Sullivan. They have 3 Rodriguez's (Rafael, Fernando and Francisco) who can all contribute in the late innings as well as Aussie Rich Thompson. With Walden and Kohn appearing to inherit the reigns of future late inning aces, and arms that include Reckling, Richards, Skaggs, Martinez-Mesa, they Angels should remain a formidable ball club for years to come.

Once an organization forks over the money ($12,000 for Triple-A phase, and $4,000 for the Double-A) to make a minor league Rule 5 draft selection, the player is all theirs. They can assign him wherever they like.

It's a confusing process, the minor league Rule 5 draft. For a refresher, you might find this story useful: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minors/news/2009/269287.html

are there rules concerning offering players back to their original team that were drafted in the minor league portion of the Rule V draft? I noticed the Mets drafted Marshall Hubbard in the AAA phase, but he is with their AA team. Did they have to offer him back to Seattle before demoting him?
