MLB Voids Giants’ Seven-Figure Deal

Major League Baseball has voided the contract of Dominican third baseman Duanel Jones, who had agreed to terms for a seven-figure deal with the Giants.

One American League international scouting director last month called Jones, a solid contact hitter with power potential, "one of the better players available from this year's July 2 class." According to one source, Jones had waited until after July 2 to sign in part due to an oblique strain that hampered him before July 2.

And the reason MLB did this was because…?

I echo the above comment. Care to elaborate…?

Was this something the the Giants requested?  Why did it happen?

Talk about an incomplete story.  Why did MLB void the contract?

I cannot yet confirm with absolute certainty the reason for the contract getting voided. When I have reliable information, I will pass it along.

MLB Probably voided it so the Red Sox or Yankees or even Mets could get another chance at signing him.

They voided it because Villalona threatened them at gun point…

Any additional info on why this contract was voided?

iam sure there is more to come? though a strain seems a funny reason to nix a contract, though anything is possible in the United States……………..

Jorge Arangure is reporting that he failed a drug test. Do you know if this is true and, if so, if it was for a PED or a recreational drug?

I read that he failed a drug test that the Giants gave him.

2 reports, both stating it was the Giants who voided his contract:
"Giants vice president of baseball operations Bobby Evans said that Jones failed a physical examination, prompting the club to ask for the deal to be scrapped. "
However, ESPN Magazine reports the Giants voided his contract because he failed a team administered drug test.
