The offseason is officially upon us. The first wave of minor league free agents make their way to the open market as their contracts expire. The list includes a pair of No. 1 overall draft picks in Kris Benson (’96) and Bryan Bullington (’02). And throw in third overall pick Philip Humber (’04) for good measure. Elsewhere, teams recalled the remnants of their 40-man rosters because at this point there’s no longer a distinction between the active and expanded roster.

The Red Sox first reached a deal with Iglesias, a 19-year-old Cuban defector, in July, but now it’s official. Interesting to note here that his initial assignment was designated as Double-A Portland. That could change, especially in light of how 20-year-old White Sox third baseman Dayan Viciedo fared with Birmingham this year.

As a Vanderbilt senior with no college eligibility remaining, Christiani and the Reds were not subject to the Aug. 17 signing deadline. The Indians selected him last year in the 32nd round but did not come to terms.

Satterwhite attended Cincinnati’s Moeller High and then transferred to the University of Cincinnati in 07, after spending his freshman year at Indiana. The Reds signed him after the 22-year-old batted .315 in 34 games for Evansville this summer.
