Thanks for the heads-up on Gugel. All signs indicate that you’re right—it is the Albany senior catcher and not a player named Gogel.

As to Chris Luck, he will not be pitching this season because of personal reasons, according to the Rays.

Oh he has, well then I modify my question to why has he only pitched 1 game in Double-A. He wasn’t that bad in Texas, is he injured?

Thanks for the answers guys. A couple more I am wondering about are Andy Sisco (Athletics), Ryan Braun (White Sox pitcher), Jesus Merchan (Indians), and Kason Gabbard, who hasn’t pitched since he was traded back to the Red Sox earlier this season.

According to the Rangers, Nathan Haynes has retired. He’s not eligible to sign with another organization until he’s granted his release, however.

Thanks for the reply! We’ve been arguing about this in another forum. The IronPigs blog reported that Andy Phillips had an opt-out clause with a June 15 deadline. (Supposedly Jason Ellison did, too, but Ellison decided to stay put.) But the Marlins announcers said Phillips was released. We were wondering if he ticked someone off, to be released when he’s hitting like that. But it sounds like either way, it was his choice.

The White Sox released Phillips on June 15, leaving him free to pursue an opportunity in Japan. This is the most common transaction (release from contract) involving Triple-A vets who have piqued the interest of foreign clubs.

The IL Transaction list says Andy Phillips filed for free agency, not that he was released.

Just wondering…did he have a June 15 “escape hatch” which he used, or did the White Sox cut him loose?

Eric Crozier, John Halama, and Jim Ed Warden were all purchased from Southern Maryland of the Atlantic League. Daniel Haigwood was purchased from Winnipeg of the Northern League.

Brian Lawrence did start the season in the Atlantic League, but his contract was sold to Orange County of the Golden League. The Padres signed him after one start with OC.

Correction to be made…..Brandon Kloess was not signed as a NDFA. His contract was purchased from Windy City of the Frontier League.
