Reinstated from DL: OF Tony Brown
Placed on temporarily inactive list: OF Brandon Menchaca
Reinstated from inactive list: OF Andrew Means
A Reds’ 12th-round pick from Western Michigan in ’05, Rosales has shown the potential in the past to be a solid infield reserve, a reputation he bolstered with his early play for Triple-A Louisville. The 25-year-old batted .431/.479/.754 through his first 17 International League games, ranking first in average and on-base percentage. Rosales’ hot streak continued in the big leagues, where he was 5-for-his-first-12 (.417).
Cleveland Indians
Recalled: LHP Rich Rundles
Optioned to Triple-A: LHP Rich Rundles
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Mike Pontius, SS Josh Rodriguez
Colorado Rockies
Placed on restricted list: OF Kevin Clark
Recalled: OF Matt Murton
Option transferred: SS Hector Gomez (Short-season to High-A)

Clark failed a test for amphetamines and was handed a 50-game suspension. Gomez, 21, returned from a year lost to both a stress fracture in his left shin and Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
Detroit Tigers
Released: RHP Scott Williamson
Recalled: LHP Clay Rapada
Added to 40-man roster: C Dane Sardinha
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Eddie Bonine, 1B Jeff Larish

Reinstated from DL: RHP Chris Mobley, RHP Ron Hill, C Jameson Smith, 2B Brandon Turner
Placed on temporarily inactive list: 3B Jacob Blackwood
The Marlins promoted Kensing, an ’03 second-round pick from Texas A&M, to the big leagues in 2004 when the righthander was but a 21-year-old in the Florida State League. He wasn’t ready (0-3, 9.88 in five games), and even five years later, the 26-year-old was being used as a low-leverage reliever. A big league bullpen mainstay since 2006 (with ’07 being a recovery year from Tommy John surgery), Kensing throws a sneaky-fast low-90s fastball, and has struck out 8.8 batters per nine innings in the big leagues. But his career ERA (5.20) and walk rate (5.1 per nine) generally have precluded him from late-inning work.
The Marlins designated Kensing for assignment to make room for Taylor, a strike-throwing, groundballing lefty from Miami (Ohio) who started 2-1, 3.24 in three starts for Double-A Jacksonville. In Gunderson, the Marlins acquired the Nationals’ 48th round pick from ’07, a righthander from Rice whose track record is about as uninspiring as his draft status.
Houston Astros
Released: RHP Jason Dominguez, LHP Neal Musser
Recalled: RHP Jeff Fulchino, C J.R. Towles
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Jeff Fulchino
Placed on 7-day DL: LHP Brad Dydalewicz, LHP Polin Trinidad, 3B Chris Johnson, OF T.J. Steele
Reinstated from DL: RHP Erick Abreu, RHP Evan Englebrook, 1B Eric Taylor
Just two seasons ago, Musser put together an outstanding Triple-A season with Omaha (4-1, 0.49 in 55 IP) that earned him his first trip to the big leagues, nine seasons after he was drafted in the second round by the Mets. Musser followed up those 25 innings of relief work in 2007 with one more inning last year, but he’s been unable to reclaim his 2007 magic.
Kansas City Royals
Placed on restricted list: LHP John Flanagan
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Blake Johnson, OF Nick Van Stratten
Reinstated from DL: LHP Dan Cevette
Los Angeles Angels
Signed: RHP Brad Salmon
Recalled: RHP Anthony Ortega
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Fernando Rodriguez
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Rich Thompson
Outrighted to Triple-A and removed from 40-man: LHP Daniel Davidson
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Jordan Walden, RHP Michael Davitt, 3B Jay Brossman, SS Hainley Statia, SS Luis Figueroa
Reinstated from inactive list: RHP Tommy Mendoza
The latest arm plugged into the Angels’ revolving-door pitching staff, Rodriguez, 24, keeps the ball down at 88-92 mph and throws a very good sinking changeup about 10 mph slower than his fastball. He’ll mix in a fair curveball from time to time. The Angels selected him from El Paso CC in the 18th round of the 2003 draft.
Mendoza returned from his 50-game suspension for a failed test for amphetamines.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Signed: RHP Zach Schreiber, LHP Chuck Tiffany, C Danny Ardoin, OF Jason Repko
Released: RHP Tanyon Sturtze, OF Erik Kanaby
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Jeff Weaver
Optioned to Double-A: LHP Scott Elbert
Optioned to Triple-A: 3B Blake DeWitt
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Paul Koss, LHP Thomas Melgarejo, 2B Johnny Washington, OF Jovanny Rosario, OF Thomas Giles
Reinstated from DL: LHP Brian Mazone, 2B Sergio Garcia, 2B Johnny Washington
Tiffany, 24, returns to the organization that drafted him, after his release by the Rays in spring training. The lefty was packaged with Edwin Jackson to Tampa Bay in January ’06 for bullpen help in the form of Danys Baez and Lance Carter. A second-round pick by the Dodgers in ’03, from Charter Oaks High in Covina, Calif., Tiffany offered significant promise when he joined the Rays, but he appeared in just 25 games of the organization in three years, missing all of ’07 as he recovered from shoulder surgery.
Milwaukee Brewers
Placed on suspended list: RHP Pedro Lambertus
Placed on restricted list: RHP Pedro Lambertus
Added to 40-man roster: C Carlos Corporan
Optioned to Triple-A: LHP R.J. Swindle
Placed on 7-day DL: LHP Mike Ramlow, SS John Delaney, OF Lorenzo Cain
Reinstated from DL: RHP Garrett Sherrill, RHP Mark Holliman, LHP Zach Braddock, SS Michael Garciaparra, OF Freddy Parejo
Placed on temporarily inactive list: 3B Erick Almonte
Reinstated from inactive list: RHP Pedro Lambertus
A career .250/.306/.366 hitter in seven minor league seasons, the 25-year-old Corporan, a native of Puerto Rico, obviously was not called up to provide offense. It’s his fielding prowess the Brewers covet. The ’03 12th-round pick from Lake City (Fla.) CC receives and blocks the ball very well, and last year he threw out an aggregate 46 percent of basestealers at Double-A and Triple-A.
Lambertus will miss 50 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
Minnesota Twins
Released: LHP Carmen Pignatiello
Traded: OF Joe Gaetti to Rangers for future considerations
Outrighted to Triple-A and removed from 40-man: RHP Juan Morillo
Placed on 7-day DL: 1B Brock Peterson, 2B Ramon Santana, 3B Tommy Watkins
Reinstated from DL: SS Andrew Thompson, SS James Beresford, OF Joe Gaetti
New York Mets
Signed: C Julio Rivera, OF Wily Mo Pena
Released: RHP Elvys Quezada, RHP Freddy Garcia, SS Matt Smith, OF Frank Diaz

Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Chris Schwinden, 3B Jose Jimenez
Reinstated from DL: RHP Elvys Quezada, SS Matt Smith
Reinstated from inactive list: RHP Fernando Nieve
A 14-year veteran of the Central League’s Hiroshima Carp, Takahashi was the third-oldest rookie, post World War II, to make his major league debut. The 40-year-old relieved Oliver Perez on Saturday, instantly entering the record books beside Satchel Paige (age 42 in ’48) and Diomedes Olivo (age 41 in ’60). Interestingly, it wasn’t even the Mets who brought Takahashi to the U.S. The Blue Jays had signed him in February only to release him at the end of spring training.
New York Yankees
Released: RHP Humberto Sanchez
Recalled: RHP David Robertson, RHP Phil Hughes
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Mark Melancon, SS Angel Berroa
Option transferred: RHP Eric Hacker (Double-A to Triple-A)

Reinstated from DL: RHP Alan Horne, OF Steven Strausbaugh
Reinstated from inactive list: RHP Jonathan Hovis
Kennedy will miss time with a finger vasospasm on his right hand. The condition cuts off the flow of blood to the fingers due to spasms of the blood vessels.
Oakland Athletics
Recalled: 2B Eric Patterson, 3B Jack Hannahan, SS Gregorio Petit
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Kevin Cameron
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Daniel Thomas, RHP Tyson Ross, 2B Corey Wimberly

St. Louis Cardinals
Acquired: LHP Evan MacLane from Diamondbacks for future considerations
Recalled: SS Tyler Greene
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Kyle Mura, LHP Justin Fiske, LHP Kat Maekawa, C Blake Murphy, OF Shane Robinson
Reinstated from DL: RHP Fernando Salas, C Brandon Yarbrough, OF Paul Cruz
San Diego Padres
Placed on restricted list: 2B Tom King
Recalled: OF Drew Macias
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Chad Gaudin, LHP Arturo Lopez
Optioned to Triple-A: OF Drew Macias
Designated for assignment: RHP Mike Ekstrom
Outrighted to Triple-A and removed from 40-man: RHP Eulogio de la Cruz, RHP Mike Ekstrom
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Robert Woodard, SS Drew Cumberland, 2B Cole Figueroa
Reinstated from DL: RHP Robert Woodard, 2B Brett Dowdy, 2B Tom King
Gaudin’s acquisition resulted in bad news for de la Cruz and Ekstrom, both of whom were outrighted to Triple-A Portland after they cleared waivers. De la Cruz, 25, walked six batters in 3 1/3 innings with the Padres, while Ekstrom’s slider hasn’t been biting like it did last year. He had an even 8-to-8 strikeout-to-walk ratio with the Beavers through 16 2/3 innings.
San Francisco Giants
Signed: RHP Osiris Matos
Released: 3B Scott McClain
Recalled: RHP Osiris Matos, 2B Eugenio Velez
Optioned to Triple-A: 2B Eugenio Velez
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Nick Pereira, OF Francisco Peguero
Reinstated from DL: C Nestor Rojas, C Tyler LaTorre
McClain signed with Hiroshima of Japan’s Central League, returning to the country where he hit 71 home runs from 2001 through ’04, playing for Seibu. The 36-year-old had one home run in 13 games for Triple-A Fresno, bringing his career minor league total to 292.
Seattle Mariners
Signed: RHP Jesus Delgado, LHP Daniel Christensen
Released: RHP Keith Meyer
Placed on restricted list: RHP Ramon Romeijn
Recalled: LHP Jason Vargas
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Michael Pineda, LHP Chris Seddon, LHP Robert Rohrbaugh, C Juan Fuentes, 3B Matt Tuiasosopo
Reinstated from DL: RHP Aaron Jensen, OF Michael Saunders, OF Mel Stocker
Saunders, 22, homered in two of his first three games back with Triple-A Tacoma. He had offseason surgery to repair a labrum tear in his right shoulder. According to Mariners correspondent John Hickey, Pineda experienced tightness near his right elbow while warming in the bullpen and was placed on the DL in a precautionary move.
Tampa Bay Rays
Voluntarily retired: RHP Travis Barnett
Placed on 7-day DL: C Stephen Vogt, OF John Matulia

Placed on temporarily inactive list: OF Brandon Boggs
Reinstated from inactive list: OF Brandon Boggs
Toronto Blue Jays
Acquired: RHP Dumas Garcia from Cubs for future considerations
Acquired: RHP Vince Bongiovanni from Diamondbacks for future considerations
Recalled: RHP Brian Wolfe, RHP Robert Ray
Added to 40-man roster: RHP Bryan Bullington, Brett Cecil, LHP Brian Burres
Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Bryan Bullington, LHP Brian Burres, LHP David Purcey
Optioned to high Class A: RHP Casey Janssen
Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Adrian Martin, RHP Alan Farina, RHP Chad Beck, RHP Marcus Walden, RHP Ross Buckwalter, SS Chris Gutierrez, OF Todd Donovan
Reinstated from DL: LHP Davis Romero, C Jon Talley, C C.J. Ebarb, 1B Adam Loewen, OF Cody Haerther
With rookies Scott Richmond and Ricky Romero (before he hit the DL) performing well in the rotation, the Blue Jays went for broke in promoting two more first-year pitchers in Cecil and Ray. The club’s supplemental first-round choice from Maryland in ’07, Cecil’s strikeout rate had fallen off some with Triple-A Las Vegas (nine in 17 1/3 innings), but his groundout-to-airout rate stood firm at 2.1. Even though the 22-year-old has yet to surrender a home run this season, he still posted a 13.50 ERA at home, while compiling a more representative 4.50 in his two road starts.
An offseason addition to the 40-man roster, Ray, 25, pitched six innings in his big league debut. He bounced back from two injury-plagued seasons in ’08, going 13-9, 3.61 in 29 starts on his way to a finish at Double-A.
