Teams sometimes keep even their best pitching high school draft picks from the year before in extended spring training before sending them to either a short-season league in June or a full-season league, either to limit their innings or, if they have a Midwest League affiliate, to keep them out of the cold weather. Gomez: He had to have Tommy John surgery last June while he was rehabbing the stress fracture in his shin, but it sounds like he could be back within the next week or so. McGee’s rehabbing in extended spring training from Tommy John surgery. Sounds like he’ll be back by June and probably start off in high Class A to ease his way back.

Weeks is still being bothered by the hip flexor injury that limited him last year. Rodriguez had double hernia surgery in the offseason, so he's going to be slow to come back. I'll look into the others.
