I have to disagree with you, Bruce... I think that Seattle got more in quantity than quality, and not necessarily things that they needed. In Franklin Gutierrez, they got a purely defensive outfielder, which isn't horrible, but the Seattle offense certainly needs more of a lift than him. Also, while Putz looked bad last year, he battled injuries the entire season and was never quite right. When he's on, he's deadly. The M's have been burned by Rule 5 picks over the last few years (Luis Ugueto, Sean White), so if they decide to go with 3 catchers again AND carry Reegie Corona, their bench will be pathetic. Carp and Cleto are the only decent hauls in the deal, and given the way that M's players seem to die after getting through the system, they're not sure things to say the least. Meanwhile, they gave up a stud closer, a stud middle reliever, a serviceable outfielder, and a decent infield prospect. Mets definitely came out on top on this one...

I thought Seattle made out like bandits. Putz looked bad last year and Carrera and Carp were two players the Mets will wish they hung onto. Also, super Rule V choice. Reegie Corona is a smart, talented, contact hitter with speed, defense, and good strike-zone judgement. Yanks will wish protected this guy, big time. Problem is I'm a New Yorker who loves the Mets and Yankees and have seen my teams trade the future for something just short since trading my favorite player, Lenny Dykstra to the Phillies.
