Minor League Transactions

This week’s installment considers all transactions reported by MLB between Nov. 21 and Dec. 1. The previous installment is available here.

Arizona Diamondbacks
Signed:
RHP Seth Etherton
Placed on restricted list: 2B Rafael Hilario

Etherton, the 18th overall pick by the Angels in 1998, started two games for independent Long Beach (Golden) in August. The 32-year-old last played in affiliated ball in June 2007, when he was in the Marlins system. He spent time pitching in Korea that year, as well, but he was waived after six games with a mystery illness.

Baltimore Orioles
Signed:
RHP Gerardo Casadiego, RHP Scott Chiasson, RHP Andy Mitchell, RHP Ross Wolf, C Adam Donachie, C Guillermo Rodriguez, OF Ambiorix Concepcion, OF Mike Rodriguez

Boston Red Sox
Signed:
RHP Jarod Plummer, C Sandy Madera

The 24-year-old Plummer’s exquisite fastball command and deceptive arm action have been the key reasons for his sterling strikeout-to-walk ratio in Double-A, which stands at 158-to-33 in 139 innings. He’s spent time in the Texas League in each of the past three seasons.

Chicago Cubs
Signed:
RHP Angel Castro, LHP Jason Waddell, C Mark Johnson

Cincinnati Reds
Signed:
LHP Ron Flores

Florida Marlins
Released:
RHP Juan Franco

Houston Astros
Signed:
LHP Doug Arguello

Kansas City Royals
Signed:
RHP Franquelis Osoria, C J.R. House, C Mat Tupman, 3B Corey Smith
Granted free agency: RHP Luke Hudson

Los Angeles Dodgers
Signed:
RHP Travis Chick, RHP Nick DeBarr, LHP Carmen Cali, LHP Erick Threets, 1B Chris Gibson, OF Mitch Jones
Placed on restricted list: RHP Chales Dasni, RHP Given Kutz

Milwaukee Brewers
Signed:
1B Scott Thorman, 2B Jason Bourgeois

While he doesn’t have a great feel for hitting or much discipline at the plate, Thorman has some serious lefty power. He’s batted .273/.317/.474 with 40 home runs in 234 Triple-A games, which is notable because it’s hard to reach the seats at The Diamond in Richmond. The 30th overall pick by the Braves in 2000, Thorman will be 27 next season.

New York Yankees
Signed:
SS Doug Bernier

Oakland Athletics
Signed:
RHP Kevin Cameron, 1B Tagg Bozied, OF Matt Carson

Pittsburgh Pirates
Signed:
LHP Daniel Haigwood, OF Maiko Loyola

St. Louis Cardinals
Signed:
C Justin Knoedler

San Diego Padres
Signed:
2B Kevin Howard

Seattle Mariners
Signed:
2B Callix Crabbe, SS Chris Woodward

Joining Steve Moss and Mel Stocker, Crabbe is the third player with ties to the Brewers to be signed under the watch of GM Jack Zduriencik, who formerly served as Milwaukee’s scouting director. Born in the Virgin Islands, the switch-hitting Crabbe, 26 next season, has batted .281/.380/.411 in 199 Triple-A games.

Tampa Bay Rays
Signed:
RHP Richard de los Santos

Texas Rangers
Signed:
LHP Joe Torres

The 10th overall pick by the Angels in 2000, Torres had perhaps his finest pro season this year, going 3-1, 2.68 with 59 strikeouts, 31 walks and two home runs allowed in 50 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old made 59 appearances out of the Double-A Birmingham bullpen. Torres pitched in the White Sox system in both 2007 and 2008.

Toronto Blue Jays
Signed:
RHP Samuel Medina, 3B Andrew Pinckney

Washington Nationals
Signed:
RHP J.D. Martin, 2B Pete Orr
Released: RHP Moises Corporan, RHP Ryan Harrison, 2B Vic Cegles, SS Frank Cruz, OF Bryan Miller
