Peoria Saguaros right fielder Mike Baxter (Padres) may be a member of the team’s taxi squad, but he’s definitely making the most of his time in the Arizona Fall League.

Yesterday against Surprise, Baxter went 5-for-5 with a triple and a home run as the Saguaros throttled the Rafters, 12-6. Through 27 AFL at-bats, Baxter is now hitting .556/.658/.963.

Baxter was the Padres’ fourth-round draft pick in 2005 out of Vanderbilt. This season between class High A Lake Elsinore and Double A San Antonio, Baxter ht .264/.345/.406 with 22 doubles and nine home runs.

Baxter wasn’t alone in going deep for the Saguaros, as five different players hit home runs in the game yesterday. Center fielder Jordan Danks (White Sox) went 4-for-4 with his first home run of the fall and teammates DH Cole Armstrong (White Sox), catcher Steven Hill (Cardinals) and first baseman Kyle Blanks (Padres) also left the yard. . . Rafters first baseman Justin Smoak (Rangers) hit his first home run as a member of Surprise’s taxi squad. . . Rafters center fielder Julio Borbon (Rangers) went 3-for-4 with a triple. He now has seven hits in the past three days. . . Phoenix first baseman Sean Doolittle (Athletics) also continued his assault on AFL pitching. Doolittle hit 22 home runs during the regular season—18 at high Class A Stockton and four at Double A Midland—and he was near the top of the leaderboard in the Arizona Fall League. Yesterday, Doolittle went 3-for-5 with a double, a  home run and four RBIs as the Desert Dogs trounced the Peoria Javelinas, 10-2. The home run was Doolittle’s sixth of the fall, tying him for the league lead. Over 65 at-bats, he’s now hitting .323/.370/.662. . . Mesa shortstop Darwin Barney (Cubs) went 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base as the Solar Sox topped the Scottsdale Scorpions, 10-4.
