Twelve More DSL, VSL Suspensions



Twelve players from Latin American summer leagues received 50-game suspensions after each tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance. The suspensions for all 12 players will be effective at the start of next season.

Five Venezuela Summer League players tested positive for metabolites of Nandrolone:

• Pirates first baseman Kelly Aponte, 17, batted .135/.220/.135 in 37 at-bats after signing in June.

• Tigers righthander Eduardo Gonzalez, 19, went 3-7, 4.73 with 27-30 K-BB in 59 innings.

• Pirates righthander Julio Joves, 17, went 0-0, 1.04 with 6-6 K-BB in 8 2/3 innings after signing in June.

• Tigers righthander Wilsen Palacios, 18, went 2-3, 1.52 with 36-15 K-BB in 41 1/3 innings.

• Phillies lefthander Ricciard Rodriguez, 20, went 2-1, 2.96 with 28-14 K-BB in 48 2/3 innings.

Six Dominican Summer League players tested positive for a metabolite of Boldenone.

• Nationals outfielder Weesley Hernandez, 19, batted .162/.351/.239 in 117 at-bats.

• Athletics righthander Eyffer Peralta, 20, went 1-1, 2.43 with 17-15 K-BB in 29 2/3 innings.

• White Sox outfielder Luis Ramos, 20, batted .278/.344/.361 in 255 at-bats split between Chicago’s two DSL affiliates.

• Mariners lefthander Cristian Rijo, 19, went 1-1, 4.22 with 16-7 K-BB in 21 1/3 innings. He signed with Seattle as an outfielder in 2005.

• Braves righthander Milton Roman, 19, went 1-1, 3.43 with 28-20 K-BB in 39 1/3 innings.

• Rangers righthander Cristian Zapata, 19, went 0-2, 7.44 with 29-45 K-BB in 52 innings. He signed with Texas as an outfielder in 2006.

Additionally, one VSL player also tested positive for a metabolite of Boldenone. Phillies righthander Luis Castillo, 19, went 2-0, 5.33 with 15-3 K-BB in 25 1/3 innings.
