Josh Vitters (Cubs) continued his assault on the Northwest League yesterday. Showing off his line-drive stroke, Vitters went 3-for-4 with three doubles, giving him 25 on the season. The only unanimous selection for the Northwest League All-Star squad, Vitters is hitting .327/.360/.504 on the year.
Prospect Nuggets
Mahoning Valley shortstop Lonnie Chisenhall (Indians) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, giving him 20 on the season, as the Scrappers took down Auburn, 6-1. . . Jason Castro (Astros) got a day off from behind the plate as the designated hitter for the Tri-City Valley Cats and went 3-for-4 with his ninth double and second home run of the year. The 10th-overall pick in the draft is hitting .276/.382/.398 over his first 123 professional at-bats. . . Brooklyn starter Brad Holt (Mets) shut down Aberdeen, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out 12 for his fifth win of the season. Right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis provided the offense for Brooklyn, going 3-for-5 with his third home run on the year. . . Tim Beckham (Rays) was promoted to Hudson Valley, rejoining his brother Jeremy. He went 2-for-4 with a double in his debut on Saturday and 0-for-2 with two walks yesterday. . . Catcher Buster Posey (Giants) was also promoted, as the Arizona League came to an end. Posey joined the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the Northwest League and 0-for-3 with two walks. . . Arizona League MVP Jaff Decker (Padres) also moved up to the Nothwest League where he went 2-for-5 yesterday as the left fielder for the Eugene Emeralds. His new teammates, right fielder Dan Robertson and third baseman James Darnell, also had the lumber ringing as the Emeralds clobbered the AquaSox (Mariners), 10-4. Robertson went 3-for-5 with three doubles and Darnell went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run.
