Prospect Of The Day
Tri-City lefthander Christian Friedrich (Rockies) looks better and better following his rough start in the Northwest League. After allowing one run in 5 2/3 innings in his previous start, Friedrich surrendered an unearned run on three hits, walked one and struck out a season high 10. The start came against Everett (Mariners), the first time since Friedrich’s debut, when he allowed two runs in two innings.
Eugene center fielder Blake Tekotte (Padres) went 2-for-3 and hit his fifth home run to keep is hot streak at the plate alive. . . Hudson Valley righthander Tyree Hayes (Rays), is the son of former major leaguer Charlie Hayes, who squeezed the last out of the Yankees’ 1996 World Championship. The younger Hayes does not wear the same protective face mask his father was known for because he is a pitcher and he had his best professional outing yet on Sunday. After turning 20 on Friday, Tyree threw a complete game shutout, scattered three hits, walked four and struck out a season high six. . . Catcher Miguel Fermin (Marlins) went a combined 8-for-10 with two home runs on Friday and Saturday. Second baseman Paul Gran (Marlins) also chipped in for Jamestown’s offense over the weekend, going 3-for-5 with two home runs on Saturday. . . Salem-Keizer designated hitter Michael Ambort (Giants) went 4-for-5 with three home runs on Friday. One homer came off Chris Carpenter (Cubs) and the another came off Andrew Cashner (Cubs).
What To Watch For Today
Following Sunday’s pop-up thunderstorms across the northeast, there are doubleheaders galore in the New York-Penn League. The following teams are scheduled to play two today:
Williamsport (Phillies) at Staten Island (Yankees)
Oneonta (Tigers) at Jamestown (Marlins)
Auburn (Blue Jays) at Vermont (Nationals)
