Prospect Of The Day
Although there were a couple of other worthy performances, today’s POTD is rightfielder Sawyer Carroll (Padres). Carroll’s power is top-notch, but with it comes a lot of strikeouts. In five at-bats yesterday, Carroll did neither. If you aren’t familiar with Carroll, seeing him go 4-for-5 with four singles is like seeing Adam Dunn put up that line. Even with the strikeouts, Carroll’s average is up to .308.
Prospect Nuggets
Shortstop Ryan Flaherty (Cubs) continues to swing a hot bat. He went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double on Wednesday and has nine extra-base hits in his last five games. . . Tri-City lefthander Christian Friedrich (Rockies) allowed two runs–one earned–in 5 2/3 innings and struck out nine to move to 2-0 on the season. Three of his last four starts have been very good. . . The Dust Devils’ offense gave Friedrich some good support, led by designated hitter Charles Blackmon (Rockies), who went 4-for-4 and missed the cycle by a home run.
Prospect Nuggets
The New York-Penn League returns after a day off and righthander Pedro P. Martinez (Mets) takes the mound for Brooklyn. He will face Lowell righthander Kyle Weiland (Red Sox), who has given up just one run in each of his last two starts.
