Prospect Of The Day
Outfielder Erik Komatsu has blistered Pioneer League pitching all season, but he’s been otherworldly in the month of August for Helena (Brewers). He continued his torrid pace yesterday as he blasted his eighth and ninth home runs of the season–both three-run shots coming with two outs in the inning–finishing 2-for-4 with two runs and six RBIs while adding an assist from right field. After batting .450 in his last 10 games, Komatsu’s season line now stands at .347/.421/.591.
Last-place Burlington (Royals) got a boost from righthander Sam Runion yesterday, as the big righty made a terrific bid for POTD recognition and tossed six shutout frames, allowing just two hits and striking out three to defeat Princeton (Rays) . . . Shortstop Juan Silverio notched his first multi-hit game since July 25, singling twice, driving in one and stealing his third base of the year for Bristol (White Sox) . . . AZL Padres righthander Mat Latos made his second start in the Arizona League, giving up two earned runs and striking out eight in four innings . . . Right fielder Angel Castillo returned to action for Orem (Angels) and went 3-for-5 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base . . . Pulaski (Mariners) third baseman Mario Martinez was 2-for-5 with an RBI, bumping his average to .328 for the season . . . Elizabethton (Twins) maintained their comfortable lead in the West division as righthander Bradley Tippett threw seven innings and surrendered one earned run on seven hits, also fanning six to pick up his eighth win of the season . . . Center fielder Angel Morales was also instrumental in Elizabethton’s (Twins) victory, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI . . . Jon Gilmore ended his 12-game hitting streak by striking out three times in all three of his at-bats for Danville (Braves) . . . Ogden (Dodgers) righthander Cole St. Clair was roughed up a bit in his two innings of work, giving up three hits and two earned runs while striking out three . . . A trio of GCL Marlins contributed multi-hit performances, as catcher Kyle Skipworth, center fielder Isaac Galloway and second baseman Daniel Pertusati all tallied two hits, with Skipworth and Pertusati contributing home runs.
