California League
Prospect Of The Day
Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) righthander Sean O’Sullivan had a tough task last night. He took the hill for the Quakes, but had to face the minor league wins leader, Modesto (Rockies) righthander Jhoulys Chacin. Don’t look now, but O’Sullivan took another step closer to catching Chacin last night. He went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks. He struck out six and improved to 15-5, 4.48.
Prospect Nuggets
Chacin had two three-run innings posted against him and he finished the evening with a line of five innings, six runs, nine hits, one walk and six strikeouts. He is now 6-2, 2.81 in the Cal League and 16-3, 2.16 overall…Hank Conger did some of the damage against Chacin as a DH. He was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored…Visalia (Diamondbacks) righthander Barry Enright went seven innings and allowed three runs on nine hits and three walks. He struck out four and fell to 9-8, 4.65…After missing two weeks in July and returning for two appearances out of the bullpen, Bakersfield lefthander Kasey Kiker was back as a starter yesterday. He went five innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out six.
What To Watch For Today
The dragon that is Kevin Pucetas’ perfect record is yet to be slain. The San Jose (Giants) righthander takes on Visalia tonight with his 9-0, 2.53 record on the line.
Carolina League
Prospect Of The Day
It wasn’t an incredible night, but we’ll give Potomac (Nationals) outfielder Michael Burgess extra credit for doing it in his first high Class A game. Burgess was 1-for-4 with a solo home run.
Prospect Nuggets
Myrtle Beach (Braves) catcher Tyler Flowers is already working on making a consecutive appearance on the Hot Sheet. He was 2-for-4 last night with a double, RBI and run scored…Lefthander Cole Rohrbough also made his High A debut. He went six innings, allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk. However, he struck out six and was able to earn the win thanks two a couple of home runs by first baseman Ernesto Mejia, the home run derby champion at this year’s California-Carolina League All-Star game.
What To Watch For Today
Righthander TIm Bascom gets the start for Frederick (Orioles). He will face Potomac and Michael Burgess. Bascom is prone to the long ball. After not giving up any in the first half, he’s allowed 13 in his last 41 innings.
Florida State League
Prospect Of The Day
Sarasota (Reds) third baseman Juan Francisco was back in a groove last night. He went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs. The home run was his 21st while the double was his 30th.
Prospect Nuggets
Fort Myers (Twins) catcher Wilson Ramos raised his average to .280 after going 3-for-4 with a double, his 21st…Clearwater (Phillies) lefthander Joe Savery put together back-to-back wins for just the second time this season. He went six innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out four in the first game of a doubleheader…Jupiter (Marlins) lefthander Sean West wasn’t given a decision, but he had a difficult outing. He went five innings allowing just one run on two hits, but walked seven batters. He also struck out six.
What To Watch For Today
Jupiter moved into a tie atop the FSL East standings with Daytona (Cubs) after taking an 8-4 decision against the Cubs. The two teams have two games remaining in the series with first place on the line.
