High A Dish: Tracy, Vinyard Rack Up Extra Bases

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Bakersfield’s (Rangers) Chad Tracy is off to a hot start in the month of August. Last night he went 4-for-5 with a double and home run, missing the cycle by a triple. He’s now hitting .45/.476/1.000 this month. Also, an interesting stat, he has 13 home runs. Twelve of them have come against righthanders–he is a righthanded batter.

Prospect Nuggets

San Jose (Giants) outfielder Michael McBryde was 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and an RBI…Visalia righthander Barry Enright had been on a roll until last night. He went 6 2/3, allowing four runs on nine hits, but he didn’t give up any walks and struck out nine…Modesto righthander Jhoulys Chacin picked up his sixth Cal League victory after tossing five innings and allowing an unearned run on four hits and a walk. He struck out three. He’s now 6-1, 1.94…Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) righthander Sean O’Sullivan picked up his league-leading 14th win after allowing just two runs on five hits over five innings. He walked four and struck out four…Stockton (Athletics) righthander Henry Rodriguez pitched two innings out of the bullpen last night. He allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits. He walked none and struck out four.

What To Watch For Today

San Jose righthander Kevin Pucetas is still perfect (8-0, 2.71). He’ll take the hill against Visalia who is throwing righthander Dallas Buck.

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

Frederick (Orioles) DH Chris Vinyard did everything he could to give his team a chance to win last night. He went 3-for-3 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Frederick scored nine runs in their loss, so all but two runs came off the bat of Vinyard. One of his home runs was a seventh inning grand slam.

Prospect Nuggets

And the reason why Vinyard’s night wasn’t enough was because Salem (Astros) put up 20 runs of their own. Catcher Koby Clemens led the charge with a 4-for-5 night in which he had a double, home run, three runs scored and five RBIs…Kinston (Indians) shortstop Carlos Rivero was 2-for-4 with a double and home run.

What To Watch For Today

Righthander Edward Cegarra takes the hill for Wilmington (Royals) with his 4-6, 5.50 record.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Clearwater (Phillies) left field Michael Taylor has turned it on recently, making an appearance in the team photo of last week’s Hot Sheet and he hit .340/.404/.532 in July. Last night he went 3-for-5 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.

Prospect Nuggets

Jupiter (Marlins) left fielder Spike McDougall would have come away with POTD if he were a year or so younger. Not only does he have a well-above-average baseball name, but he went 3-for-4 last night with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs…Lefthander Sean West was thankful for McDougall’s performance as he evened up his record at 5-5 after pitching five innings and allowing just three hits and four walks. He also struck out seven…A quartet of righthanded Tiger prospects appeared in Lakeland’s game last night. Rick Porcello got the start and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out three. Robbie Weinhardt then came in to relieve Porcello, allowing an unearned run on three hits in two innings. He walked one and struck out two. Cody Satterwhite was next in line, pitching a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout. But, Ryan Perry, the Tigers first-round pick this year, was stuck with the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in the ninth inning. Those were the first runs he’s allowed in his young pro career.

What To Watch For Today

Righthander Wade Townsend is still trying to get back on track in the Rays’ system. He takes the mound tonight with a record of 0-2, 5.55 after being demoted from Double-A Montgomery.
