Prospect Of The Day
Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) righthander Jordan Walden pitched a gem yesterday and landed in the Team Photo of today’s Hot Sheet. He turned in seven innings in which he allowed just two hits, two walks and struck out nine. He is now 2-2, 4.35.
Prospect Nuggets
Chris Carter took up DH duties for Stockton (Athletics) last night and picked up his 31st home run while going 2-for-4 with four RBIs…Lake Elsinore’s (Padres) Eric Sogard was also a DH last night and went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a solo home run, his eighth…San Jose (Giants) righthander Kevin Pucetas earned his ninth win of the season to improve to 9-0, 2.53 after pitching seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out five.
What To Watch For Today
Righthander Tim Alderson will try to follow Pucetas with a good start of his own against Lake Elsinore tonight.
Carolina League
Prospect Of The Day
Tyler Flowers took a break from catching last night, but still helped out the Myrtle Beach (Braves) offense. He went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. It furthered amplified his week that earned a spot at No. 12 on the Hot Sheet.
Prospect Nuggets
Frederick (Orioles) first baseman Brandon Snyder was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored…Carlos Santana is still raking for Kinston (Indians). The catcher doesn’t seem to realize the Carolina League is suppose to favor pitchers. He went 4-for-5 with three runs scored last night…First baseman Beau Mills backed up Santana with a 3-for-5 night. He had two runs and two RBIs on a double and home run.
What To Watch For Today
Two righthanded prospects are trying to right the ship in their 2008 season. Brad Lincoln takes the ball for Lynchburg (Pirates) against Myrtle Beach, while John Ely will take the hill for Winston-Salem (White Sox) against Potomac (Nationals).
Florida State League
Prospect Of The Day
Lakeland (Tigers) first baseman Ryan Strieby can’t be stopped. He turns 23 tomorrow and has be on fire since July 1. Last night he went 3-for-5 with a run scored, three RBIs and two doubles.
Prospect Nuggets
Sarasota (Reds) shortstop Todd Frazier rolled several twos last night. He was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. He also hit his 11th FSL home run…Brevard County (Brewers) catcher Jonathan Lucroy also took a day off from catching, but went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored as the DH.
What To Watch For Today
Lefthander Duane Below (6-7, 4.06) takes the mound as Lakeland faces Dunedin (Blue Jays).
