Carolina League
Prospect Of The Day
Myrtle Beach (Braves) put together a strong offensive show, something rare for their ballpark where long fly balls bidding for the fence simply die in the gaps. The Pelicans beat Kinston (Indians) 17-2, highlighted by a nine-run eighth inning. Catcher Tyler Flowers led the barrage of runs with a 2-for-3 night in which he hit two home runs, scored three times and drove in five.
Prospect Nuggets
Frederick (Orioles) third baseman Billy Rowell went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI as the Keys took down Salem 6-3…Lefthanded veteran Tom Glavine made the start for Myrtle Beach, part of his rehab journey. He went four innings, allowing just one run on three hits and one walk. He also struck out four.
What To Watch For Today
Winston-Salem (White Sox) will look to gain some ground on either Myrtle Beach or Kinston. Myrtle Beach is front of the Warthogs and Indians by 4 1/2 games and are in the middle of a three-game series with Kinston.
Florida State League
Prospect Of The Day
Lakeland (Tigers) first baseman Ryan Strieby is dominating the home run leader board. The only player contending with him is two years older. Strieby launched his 27th long ball yesterday as part of a 2-for-5 night that helped the Flying Tigers take down Tampa (Yankees).
Prospect Nuggets
Lakeland shortstop Cale Iorg has returned from the disabled list and went 3-for-5 last night with an RBI and two runs scored…Fort Myers righthander Deolis Guerra struggled mightily with his control last night. He went five innings, allowing just one run on six hits, which is a miracle since he walked six. He also struck out one. Catcher Wilson Ramos went 2-for-4 with a home run, his 12th, to lead the Miracle offense.
What To Watch For Today
Jupiter (Marlins) and St. Lucie (Mets) are both 2 1/2 games out of first place, behind Daytona (Cubs). The Hammerheads and Mets will inevitably break that tie today when they face off against each other.
The California League had Monday off. Teams will resume action today with Visalia (Diamondbacks) righthander Barry Enright taking on San Jose (Giants) lefthander Jesse English.
